Nourishing the Soul

Get togethers are organised to provide opportunities for carers and individuals to feel supported and learn coping strategies.  It is helpful to share experiences and each others’ journeys.

Counselling

The Mind Wellness Team is comprised of two counsellors and one registered nurse, all of whom specialise in dementia support.

Our experienced team provides counselling and dementia support services to clients, carers and family members, as well as culturally appropriate care strategies to support clients to continue living in their own homes.

Part of the support offered includes the promotion of self-care strategies, the enhancement of emotional/mental/physical wellbeing by offering face-to-face and phone counselling, home visits, advocacy and support related to clients with or without cognitive impairments.

The Mind Wellness Team provides referrals to other support agencies outside Co.As.It. For more detailed information and how best Co.As.It. can help, contact our team on 07 3624 6100

Dementia Support

It is well known that there are lower levels of access to dementia services by CALD communities, influenced by language barriers, cultural factors and cultural appropriateness of services. The number of people who speak a language other than English at home who have dementia is expected to increase dramatically over the coming years as CALD communities age.

Our dementia support officers aim to increase access by CALD community members in the receipt of appropriate services and to ensure that culturally appropriate dementia resources are provided and explained to all family members of the person with dementia.

Carers Support

You might not think of yourself as a carer.  In truth, many carers see themselves as a family member who looks after a person they love, not as a carer.

Carers may feel emotionally drained, physically challenged and spiritually exhausted. Because these are commonly shared experiences, you may not think to look for, or ask for help.

Co.As.It.’s  Mind Wellness Team counsellors will provide support to care-givers experiencing challenges related to their caring role and their loved ones with dementia.

This support offers confidential counselling, information and resources as well as socio/recreational weekly activity groups that maintain your well-being so that you can continue in your caring role.

Co.As.It. strongly believes in this much needed support for carers and has committed its own funds to facilitate its success. Community donations are always welcome.
