Social Connections

Age, social isolation, disability, and inability to participate in other activities are just some of the difficulties some people face every day. Social Support Activities help participants maintain an active social life through the participation in outings with friends or attendance at a social group activity centre (SGA).  These activities  meet the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people in the community.

Clients will spend a day participating in various activities run by our experienced staff.

Co.As.It.’s Social Group Activity Centres (SGA) and social outings are services delivered under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) which is funded by the Federal Department of Health and Aged Care. Clients are provided with transport, a broad range of structured activities, and a home-style cooked meal.

The centres provide group-based activities promoting physical exercises, cognitive stimulation and emotional wellbeing.

Our SGA centres operate from four locations throughout Brisbane. Stafford Heights, Acacia Ridge, Cleveland, Bracken Ridge and Clear Island Waters, Gold Coast.

Clients are picked up from their homes and offered morning tea and lunch and the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities such as crafts, gentle exercises, theme days, visits from the local kindergarten, musical sing-a-longs and social connections.

Our bilingual and bicultural workers are invaluable in delivering a meaningful service that caters to clients with diverse languages and cultures.

Eligibility

As with all Commonwealth Home Support Program services, access to services is provided following an assessment organised by My Aged Care (1800 200 422).  Co.As.It. will provide assistance and guidance in organising this assessment.

Contact our care services coordinator (CHSP) for further information on the above services, 07 3624 6100.

Social Group Activities (Centres and Groups)

Engagement in social activities is encouraged to prevent feeling isolated,  and to help you stay active, independent and provide social stimulation and connection within your own community.  Monthly group outings are organised for eligible persons living on the north side and south side of Brisbane, providing a social day out with lunch and transport included.  A small fee is required to access these outings.

Lack of social support can hinder a person’s overall quality of life.  It is related to negative impacts on health and well-being, especially for older people from a CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) background.

Participation in social support activities can contribute to psychological and physical wellness, by reducing stress, increasing physical health and preventing depression.

Our staff will welcome you into our social groups and make your experience enjoyable.
